Tampa is fortunate to be the home of the starting location of the Ringling Brothers & Barnum Bailey Circus on each year’s tour. The year long tour will play to over 10 million people as over 150 show participants clown, trapeze, juggle, motorcycle, and ride elephants and more. We met two members of the Torres Family at their training camp at the Florida State Fairgrounds. The Torres Family is a motorcycle team that hopes to put as many as 8 motorcycles in a metal globe racing at speeds of 60 MPH. A picture of the Globe is with this article. Putting 8 motorcycles in at all looks tough. The experience and enthusiasm of the new show was shared by all we talked to. Ken Feld and daughter, Nicole are the show producers. For three generations the Feld family has been involved with the circus. At age, Nicole serves as Executive Vice President and as a Producer. While the circus may be loaded with clowns, there is no clowning around about the business the circus brings. Over 350 are involved with the show PLUS there are actually two travelling units at any one time. Over 100 animals and for the first time a porcupine – Percy - will be included in the act. Performing at the St. Pete Times Forum, the show will run from Jan 2 through Jan 6, 2008.
