Ybor Artists and Musicians gather for a night of ‘La
Sociedad’.
The Ybor House of Artists hosts “Information for
Smokers”, a cross-disciplinary art show in one of
Ybor City’s oldest cigar factories.
When: Saturday, June 10 - 8 - Midnight
Where: 116-year-
old Oliva Cigar factory, one of only two wood-framed
cigar
factories left in Florida. 2008 N. 18th Street, on the
corner of Palm
Avenue and 18th Street, in Ybor City.
How Much: FREE - Donations Accepted
The name La Sociedad or, The Society,
evokes the mutual aid societies that thrived in Ybor
City during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In
that same spirit, La Sociedad is part of the Ybor
House of Artists, a new community of artists and
musicians working together to promote mutual aid to
the artists who live, work, and play in Ybor.
Featuring eight visual
artists in a variety of mediums and three local bands,
Falterboy, The Interventionists, and Red Room
Cinema.
The threat of hurricanes have significantly affected
the image of our area, but the City of Tampa
may be
risking our positive image needlessly, with little to

Eric Sturm's Guide to Tampa Bay organizations is a

Eric Sturm co-founded the Downtown After-Six
events in Tampa, promotes networking mixers at the
Tampa Club, manages the calendar for
Tampagold.com, sits on the advisory board of
Creative Tampa Bay, authored the Young and
Involved survey that was detailed in The Tampa Bay
Business Journal, and publishes a weekly e-zine of
arts and cultural events in the area. His experience
and dedication to improving our community were the

Germany Public Library.

Pride & Passion at the Tampa Museum of Art
When:Friday, June 9, 2006 from 8 p.m. to
midnight
How much: Admission to Pride & Passion is $35
for single tickets; $50 for household/couple; and $10
for current museum members. The price of admission
includes hors d’oeuvres, open bar and coffee service.
Scheduled to coincide with national Gay Pride Month,
the event will benefit educational programs at the
Tampa Museum of Art. Live entertainment
throughout
the evening will be provided by Chris “DjCK” Kinney
and glam-rock band, The Glitter Guns. The event is
co-produced by Scott Taylor, an independent public
relations consultant, and the Tampa Museum of Art.
The event host committee members are Carrie
Mackin, Scott Moore and Sasha, Eric Siglin and Lorrie
White.
Art After Dark will be held this month on Friday, June
16.

Where: Raymond James Stadium.
How Much: The event is free and
open to the public.
Over 50 exhibits will be on display and many City
representatives including Mayor Iorio will be present.

How Much: The event is free and open to the public.
Over 50 exhibits will be on display and many City
representatives including Mayor Iorio will be present.
“Hurricane Alley” will include exhibits from the City of
Tampa, Hillsborough County and the American Red
Cross as well as Tampa Fire Rescue’s hurricane-wind
simulator.
League of Women Voters to Meet
The League of Women Voters of Hillsborough County
will hold its annual meeting June 17 starting at 9 a.m.
at the Centro Asturiano Club in Ybor City. (Don't
think this group is just for women, the current
President is a male) In January they hosted the
debate between Mary Ann Stiles and Rhonda Storms
over the County Mayor form of government.
